Artificial Intelligence or AI is a term which we happen to listen quite frequently these days. The AI or Artificial Intelligence, as the name suggests is comprised of two words ‘Artificial’ i.e. something that isn’t natural and Intelligence which means an ability to make decisions and understand things in an appropriate manner. The person who finally coined the term artificial intelligence and is regarded as the father of AI is John McCarthy. In 1956 he organized a conference “The Dartmouth summer research project on artificial intelligence” to draw the talent and expertise of others interested in machine intelligence for a month of brainstorming.
Today, it is a branch of computer science that aims to create
intelligent machines and has become an essential part of the technology industry.
Research in this filed has to be highly technical and specialized. The core problems of artificial intelligence include programming computers for certain tasks and qualities which involve Ability to manipulate and move objects, Reasoning, Problem-solving, Perception, Learning, and Planning. Talking about applications of AI, almost all the companies are trying to maximize the utilization of this. Tech companies like IBM, TESLA, and PANDORA are using it to give users a customized experienced. Tech giants like GOOGLE, APPLE, and AMAZON are making most of it and have already made their way to a full-fledged virtual assistant which can fetch info, help users with their daily tasks and answer questions. Who has not heared of Amazon operated drones today?
Having a look around, one can easily see that AI has made their work process smoother and
easier to use. Even streaming services like Spotify for music and Netflix for videos have been using it quite efficiently to give users a near perfect customized layout based on the genres and nature of content the user has been consuming. The layout of this blog is partially decided by AI, giving you the most suited viewing experience. In recent times, another kind of application of AI in the fields of Chat Bots, cybersecurity and HR management can be observed in the corporate sector. Companies Gramene, Gemini8, Hash Research Lab are even working in the sectors of Machine Learning in developing countries like India.

Artificial Intelligence is the core transformative way by which we’re rethinking how we’re doing everything.SUNDAR PICHAI
However, machine learning is not to be confused with Artificial Intelligence as there lies a considerable amount of difference between two terms. Machine Learning is the learning in which machine can learn on its own without being explicitly programmed. It is an application withing the AI that provides system the ability to automatically learn and improve from experience. It’s a simple concept where the system takes input and then learns
from it. ML allows to learn new things from data.
Apart from talking about the present, a future where a human is completely surrounded by AI can be easily visualized looking at the pace of the current era of technological advancements. A place where the gates are automated, transports are self-driven and infrastructure is built and maintained by robots. This is no longer a distant dream.
However, as a matter of fact, there is a fair possibility that with the increasing momentum of the development of AI, there might come a time of over-advancement . Who knows? A creation of human can override humans and be a threat to itself instead of a boon raising a question of its own security and being a threat to its own mere existence.
A conclusion of this highly volatile and a debatable subject is that, even if humans are the sole creatures to create this, they would be the only one to face both negative and positive consequences. Needless to say, AI has eased our lives and we hope to have this in the same way. But all we can do is be cautioned and explore about this vast subject. Regardless of the fact whether it is natural or artificial, intelligence is can only be deemed as ‘intelligence.’
